A 50-year-old man has died after falling from a cliff at North Bondi while with a group of friends on Friday night.
The man was at the cliffs on Bondi Golf Course when it is believed he fell from the cliff while trying to jump from one rock ledge to another, falling about 10m onto rocks below.
His friends called emergency services and several police rescue and paramedic crews arrived on scene shortly after, as well as a rescue helicopter to assist in the precarious mission to reach the man.
After emergency personnel scaled the cliffs to reach him, they found he had suffered “significant” head injuries.
He tragically passed away at the golf course, with police tending to his distraught friends who remained on top of the cliff.
A young woman and a man were seen breaking down in tears as police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Another person who lives near the golf course and wished to remain anonymous said he saw a group of people perched on the cliffs listening to music at various times on Friday night.
While it is not hard to see why people would visit the cliffs to admire the view, it is well- known how dangerous they are, with the words “out of bounds” spray painted to one rock just metres from where the man fell.
