An elderly woman has died in a horrific house fire in the state’s Northern Tablelands.
At about 9.15am on Friday, emergency services were called to a home on Bourke St, Glen Innes – around two hours west of Grafton – following reports of a fire.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze before locating the body of a 79-year-old woman during a search in the home.
The body is yet to be formally identified but it is believed to be the homeowner.
A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire is underway.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
