6000 new homes are on their way in Sydney’s west and inner west

Planning Minister Rob Stokes has revealed a plan to build in two big growth areas of Sydney which will result in 6000 new homes.

‘Extraordinary price changes’ in the housing market warrant ‘prudent’ lending

Prospective homeowners can prepare to jump at their share of 6000 new properties being built in Greater Sydney.

The new homes will be spread across Rhodes in the Inner West and Wilton in the Macarthur region.

Under the Rhodes Place Strategy, the suburb’s eastern parts will be redeveloped to include more apartments and terrace homes.

The area is already residentially and commercially developed but housing availability will be intensified.

Those looking for freestanding homes have a better shot in Wilton where a paddock will be turned into the town centre, harbouring 1600 free standing homes and apartments.

Planning Minister Rob Stokes said the projects will also create 8000 jobs.

“We need more homes to meet current and future demand, supported by infrastructure, and our work at Rhodes and Wilton will create more connected, green communities,” he said.

“Under the strategy, up to 4,200 new homes and 1,100 new jobs will be delivered, along with around 2.3-hectares of open space, an upgrade to Rhodes Railway Station, a proposed ferry wharf, and a site for a new public school.”

Mr Stokes said the influx in apartment living will come alongside investment in open spaces including parks and better connections to the Parramatta River.

“The community will also benefit from 2.9 kilometres of new walking and cycling paths, which will connect with a new 7,500 square metre foreshore park, 15 metre-wide waterfront promenade, and existing open spaces such as McIlwaine Park,” he said.

Work on the Wilton rezoning will kick start in March next year and will build on the government’s commitment to build 18,000 homes in South-West Sydney.

“Up to an additional 7,000 new jobs and 1,600 homes will be created at Wilton through this rezoning, which is the final piece of the puzzle needed to support the Wilton Growth Area, bringing the town centre precinct online with the rezoned North and southeast Wilton Precincts,” he said.

“The rezoning brings the 20-year vision for the area a step closer, with the town centre precinct featuring new walking and cycling paths, a public transport hub, and a future school site.”
