Two thousand naked Aussies have turned their faces to the sky and their bums to Bondi in a stunning public art project.
Artist Spencer Tunick gathered the group of keen nudes on Australia’s most iconic beach to encourage early detection of skin cancer and to pay tribute to the 2,500 Australians lost to skin cancer every year.
“I am so excited for Bondi Beach to be the location for this installation,” Mr Tunick said. “With summer coming up, millions of people will flock to the beach and it is vitally important they know how to protect their skin so they can prevent unnecessary skin cancers.”
The Aussie who braved it all and stripped down flocked to the beach for an early 3am start, with the images captures as the sun rose over Bondi.
Men and women of all ages, sizes and colours were encouraged to participate in the event
The instillation follows Mr Tunick’s 2010 nude gathering on the steps of the Sydney Opera House which attracted 5,500 nudists.
“With Australia recording the highest number of deadly skin cancers in the world every year, it made sense to host this monumental public awareness campaign in a city that has so many people at risk,” said CEO and founder of the Skin Check Champions Scott Maggs.
“Beach life is synonymous with Australian culture, but it’s also where a lot of skin cancers can start.”
