A luxury car worth $300,000, a motorbike and a Lime rental bike have been among the casualties of a chaotic beachside crash in Bondi, that has sparked a police investigation.
Traffic chaos ensued for beachgoers after the multi-vehicle accident on Bondi Rd in Sydney’s eastern suburbs about 10am on Sunday.
NSW Police and Ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene where two men, a 36-year-old who was on the motorbike and a 60-year-old in a Subaru, were taken away to hospital for minor injuries.
Some of the most damage appeared to be done to the front of a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, which retails for close to $300,000.
Another luxury car, a Lamborghini Huracan with the licence plate BURG3R, pulled over near the crash scene but is understood not to be involved.
In a statement, NSW Police said the driver of the $300,000 Chevrolet had been taken to Waverley Police Station for questioning.
“On arrival, officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command located a grey Chevrolet, a red motorcycle, a blue Subaru station wagon, a grey Volkswagen hatchback, and a silver Land Rover 4WD, all damaged as a result of a collision,” a police spokesman said.
“The rider of the red motorcycle – a 36-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.
“The driver of the blue Subaru – a 60-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance before being taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in a stable condition.
“The driver of the grey Chevrolet – a 36-year-old man – was subject to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result. He has been taken to Waverley Police Station where he is assisting police with their inquiries.
“A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident has commenced.”
On top of the damage to the cars involved, a Lime rental bike also appeared to have been knocked over by the impact of the accident.
The crash impacted not only traffic along Bondi Rd, but public transport including the 333 and 380 bus routes packed with beachgoers.
