Legendary radio host Ray Hadley has spoken of his relationship breakdown with his former colleague. It comes as Alan Jones was arrested in relation to an investigation into alleged indecent assaults.

Alan Jones' biggest controversies

Legendary 2GB host Ray Hadley has spoken about his “soured” relationship with former colleague Alan Jones after he was arrested on Monday morning.

Speaking to his audience on The Ray Hadley Morning Show, Hadley said his relationship with Jones “soured five years ago”, however, he admitted he was unable to say “why”.

Hadley said he became aware of claims against Jones in 2019.

Jones was arrested at his Circular Quay residence early Monday morning following an investigation into alleged indecent assault and sexual touching incidences.

Afterwards, Hadley told listeners high-profile lawyer Bryan Wrench had been seen entering the apartment building of Jones about 9am on Monday.

He asked listeners to understand the “need for me to be circumspect” and his need to “report on matters factually” as the matter is likely to be imminently before the courts.

“Editorial comment ... has to be guided by legalities,” Hadley said.

“I hope you all understand that.”

He called out “narks who are contacting me” claiming he was leaving 2GB because of the allegations against Jones.

“This has had nothing to do with my decision, nothing whatsoever to do with my decision, it’s completely devoid of the decision I’d taken,” Hadley said.

“At some time in the future those reasons why I’m not commenting on it today will become patently obvious to everyone. Patently obvious, (but) in the meantime I will say no more.”

Later in the show Hadley said he had been “quoted before” in articles about his relationship with Jones, which were published when the allegations were first aired.

Hadley said those quotes were “still valid”.

At the time, Hadley addressed the news live on air, saying he spoke to a former 2GB employee going by the alias of Brad Webster to protect his identity.

Hadley explained Webster asked if the two could meet “some time ago”.

“I readily agreed having known this person for some time, but I had no idea what he was wanting to talk about. He told me his story at the time and I was not aware of those circumstances until that day.”

“In the next 40 minutes I sat silently as he went through the (claims), uninterrupted only by his tears as he tried to compose himself.”

Jones hosted the number one rating breakfast show on 2GB from 2002 to 2020 with Hadley on air afterwards, from 9am.

Hadley explained his relationship with Jones was “an unusual one”.

“We’ve had many battles and some good times but from the day I spoke to Bradley our relationship was severed,” he said.

“Given that it was already strained over other matters not related to the allegation made by Bradley.”
