2021 Sydney Royal Easter Show changes: What you need to know

The Sydney Royal Easter Show is returning this year and organisers say it’ll be the same fun as usual — with a few important changes.

Cancellation of Sydney's Royal Easter Show a great disappointment for farmers

Two six-year-olds will make their Easter Show debut when the iconic event returns to the Harbour City in April — with some key changes.

While the showbag hall, rides, food and animal shows will all be back this year, free transport is no longer on offer, with ticket holders instead being asked to pre-pay for parking.

“To meet contact tracing requirements for the NSW Government, tickets to the 2021 Show won’t include free public transportation so we encourage those who will be driving to get on to the Sydney Olympic Park Authority website and pre-book parking,” a spokeswoman said.

The usual crowding will be reduced this year with only pre-booked tickets.

Visitors will be able to make sure they avoid long queues to areas of the show by checking an app which will show a real-time traffic light system: green for low capacity, orange for nearing capacity and red for full.

There will also be COVID marshals making sure each venue sticks to its capacity limit.

The layout of the show will also change slightly to accommodate social distancing, with wider aisles, some back areas opened for queuing and dedicated entry and exit points to each venue.

There will be a similar amount of rides this year, including the brand new Giant Wheel which gives show-goers a view 35m from the ground, and new drifting dodgem cars.

The rides will be periodically cleaned throughout the day.

Organisers say there will still be plenty of rides and showbags.

To make sure everyone gets a fair go finding their favourite showbags, some showbag vendors will be stationed throughout the show outside the showbag hall, to make sure the venue doesn’t get overcrowded.

Tickets to the show must be booked online this year, and any walk-ups will be turned away in order to keep control of crowd numbers and keep details for contact tracing.

Ticketholders will be able to enter the show at any time during their allocated day.

After the heartbreaking decision to cancel last year’s Easter Show, twins Elken and Mila Caska are anxious to show off their ponies Charlie and Evie.

“It’s amazing when you get ribbons … I’ve won heaps of them,” said Elken, who is nervous for the show but confident he’ll win a ribbon riding his “best friend”.

His sister Mila was supposed to compete last year and has been waiting eagerly at the gate for this year’s show.

“I’m a little bit nervous and I’m excited,” Mila said.

“I’m like ‘come on I want to be at the Easter Show right now’.”
