A grow-house has been shut down and almost $200,000 worth of cannabis plants seized after a month-long investigation.

Almost $200,000 worth of cannabis plants have been found packed in the back of a rental truck, after police began investigating an alleged grow-house in Sydney’s inner west.

Officers attached to the South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad – Wetherill Park initiated inquiries earlier this month into the alleged cultivation of cannabis in a home in Enfield.

As part of a proactive strategy, a rental truck and a sedan were tracked from a home in Enfield before being stopped on Punchbowl Road, Belfield, about 2pm on Thursday, with five men arrested.

Police will allege the truck was stacked with more than 120 cannabis plants in various stages of maturity. The plants seized have an estimated potential street value of $180,000.

Five men from the two vehicles were taken to Burwood Police Station where three have been charged.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with take part enhanced indoor cultivate cannabis commercial, possess cannabis (greater than indictable, less than commercial quantity), and found on/entering/leaving drug premises.

Two men, aged 31 and 42, have each been charged with take part enhanced indoor cultivate cannabis commercial, and found on/entering/leaving drug premises.

All three have been refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court later today.

Police also executed a search warrant at a unit in Enfield around 5pm yesterday, where they found a number of rooms had been converted to grow cannabis plants through enhanced indoor cultivation.

Almost 37 plants were seized along with dried cannabis. The plants seized have an estimated potential street value of $55,500.

The remaining two men have been released pending further inquiries.

Inquiries by the Region Enforcement Squad are continuing.
