Three-year-old girl tests positive, Katherine lockout extended 24 hours

Three cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the NT overnight, including one local case.

A THREE-year-old from Katherine has tested positive for Covid-19 overnight, with the area’s lockout extended for 24 hours.

Health Minister Natasha Fyles said there were three cases in total: the three-year-old, a woman who travelled to Darwin from London, and a person from Melbourne.

Ms Fyles said the three-year-old went to receive treatment at Katherine Hospital and tested positive following a PCR test.

She is believed to be late in her infectious period and has seven household contacts.

Ms Fyles added the result could explain the Bicentennial Rd catchment positive wastewater results.

Acting Chief Health Officer Charles Pain said the lockout extension would allow authorities to assess whether further measures were needed.

The international case is a 60-year-old woman who travelled to Darwin on November 29.

She has been in quarantine with another individual. Her result is not linked to the Qantas crew positive cases.

The positive from Melbourne is a close contact of an individual who travelled to Darwin from Melbourne last week. The individual was in quarantine and it’s understood there are no further close contacts.

Ms Fyles also announced the Binjari community will go into a lockout following consistent negative test results.

A woman who travelled to Darwin from South Australia last week, who at the time tested positive for Covid-19, has been reclassified as negative following further testing. Ms Fyles said the results were a false positive.
