The number of new Covid cases reported has dropped, according to the latest data.

THE number of new Covid cases in the NT dropped with 368 reported on Sunday, compared to 632 the previous day.

There were 259 cases recorded in the Top End region, 52 in Central Australia, 12 in East Arnhem, 21 in the Big Rivers region, 5 in the Barkly region and 19 are under investigation.

There are currently 101 people in hospital, with 14 patients requiring oxygen.

There are six patients in ICU. The number of active cases in the NT is about 4650.

Woman passes away with Covid

A WOMAN in her 80s has died in Alice Springs from Covid-19, marking the 21st death from the virus since the pandemic began.

A statement from Secure NT said the woman had underlying health conditions and died at the Alice Springs Hospital.

There were 632 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, 409 of which were in the Top End.

For the first time in weeks, the number of people in hospital with the virus has fallen below 100.

There were 98 patients in hospital with the virus, 16 of whom were needing oxygen treatment.

Seven people were in intensive care.

Man passes away at RDH with Covid

A man has passed away at Royal Darwin Hospital becoming the 20th person in the Territory to die with Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The man in his 50s had underlying health conditions and is the fifth person this week to pass away with Covid.

This comes as 755 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the NT, of which 681 were positive cases from a Rapid Antigen Test.

There were 426 cases recorded in the Top End region, 185 in Central Australia, 23 in East Arnhem, 46 in the Big Rivers region and 36 in the Barkly region. 39 cases remain under investigation.

Hospitalisations have meanwhile decreased with 101 patients in hospital with 19 people needing oxygen while seven people are currently in ICU.

The number of active cases has also continued its decline now sitting at about 4965.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner said the NT had one of the lowest mortality rates in the nation.

“My last briefing was that we had the same prevalence of Covid in the NT as New South Wales and Victoria, the same kind of caseload that they’ve experience, but we had the lowest mortality in the nation, excluding WA which is an anomaly at the moment.”

“The thing that we’re keeping a closer eye on than the mortality rate, the death rates is the ICU rate and hospitalisation impact.

“At the moment, our general admission hospital rate has declined. We had yesterday seven in our ICU system, which worried me a little bit. Obviously we’ve been looking at 8 for a benchmark of future decisions”

“It was a seven we were comfortable with, as opposed to a seven we were uncomfortable with”

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 24: THE Northern Territory has reported three new Covid-19s deaths, the equal highest number of Covid related deaths on a single day.

The total number of deaths is now at 19 since the start of the pandemic.

A male in his 70s who had underlying health conditions passed away at Royal Darwin Hospital on Wednesday.

Two further deaths were referred to the Office of the Chief Health Officer to determine whether Covid was a contributing factor in line with national criteria.

Both of these deaths were verified as being Covid-19 related on Thursday morning.

A male in 60s from a remote community in Western Australia, who had underlying health conditions, passed away at RDH on February 18.

A female in her 60s from a remote community in Central Australia, who had underlying health conditions, passed at Alice Springs Hospital on February 17.

This comes as 757 new cases of Covid were recorded in the Territory, with 698 being positive cases from a Rapid Antigen Test.

There were 458 cases recorded in the Top End region, 142 in Central Australia, 39 in East Arnhem, 34 in the Big Rivers region, 28 in the Barkly region and 56 are under investigation.

There are currently 108 people in hospital, with 23 patients requiring oxygen and seven people in ICU.

The number of active cases in the NT is at 5275.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 23: NEW cases of Covid-19 across the Territory have continued their steady increase with 864 new cases recorded.

Of the new infections 786 were positive cases from a Rapid Antigen Test.

There were 402 cases recorded in the Top End region, 113 in Central Australia, 188 in East Arnhem, 36 in the Big Rivers region, 34 in the Barkly region and 91 are under investigation.

Hospitalisations also increased slightly with 131 patients in hospital, with 11 people requiring oxygen and four in ICU.

The number of active cases in the NT is about 5513.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 22: A MAN from Central Australia has become the 16th Territorian to die with Covid after passing away at Alice Springs Hospital.

The man in his 80s had underlying health issues but Secure NT did not confirm the date of his passing.

This comes as 716 new cases of Covid-19 were reported across the Territory with 633 of the new infections recorded from a Rapid Antigen Test.

There were 409 cases recorded in the Top End region, 114 in Central Australia, 42 in East Arnhem, 52 in the Big Rivers region and 37 in the Barkly region while 62 cases remain under investigation.

There are currently 123 patients in hospital with 10 people requiring oxygen and three in ICU.

The number of active cases in the NT have decreased once again to 5754.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 21: The Northern Territory recorded 627 new cases of Covid.

There were 422 cases recorded in the Top end, 89 in Central Australia, 36 in East Arnhem, 25 in the Big Rivers region, 17 in the Barkly and 38 under investigation.

There are currently 123 patients in hospital, with 21 patients requiring oxygen. There are three patients in ICU.

The number of active cases in the NT is about 6,106.

SUNDAY: A TENNANT Creek woman has been recorded as the Territory’s fifteenth Covid fatality, after passing away while infected with the virus.

Secure NT confirmed that the woman in her 70s who had underlying health conditions passed away in the Tennant Creek Hospital.

Secure NT did not confirm the date of her passing.

The Territory has recorded 15 Covid-related fatalities since December 3.

The latest casualty comes as 2 per cent of the NT population is fighting the virus, with 6308 confirmed active cases.

Rural and remote communities have previously said the active case number tally underestimates the actually outbreak, with a leaked letter from the Chief Health Officer last week in warning the need for “effective and sustainable” testing and calling for Covid supplies to be rationed.

There were 546 new cases of Covid recorded in the NT over the past 24 hours, 87 per cent of these cases were confirmed by rapid antigen tests.

Sixty per cent of the cases were from the Top End region, with a further 58 detected in Central Australia, 46 in East Arnhem, 12 in the Big Rivers region, 23 in the Barkly region and 65 still under investigation.

It comes as 127 Covid-positive patients are being treated in Territory hospitals, with 16 patients requiring oxygen, and two patients in the intensive care unit.
