State pride is up for grabs – in minion form – at the Alice Springs Show, as the organisers receive a helping hand from behind the wire.
The corrections stand is returning to the Alice Springs show this year for it’s 13th iteration, with inmates also helping to get the ground ready for this year’s show.
NT Corrections principal industries officer Stephen Rosier said “a bit of work” had been put into this year’s creations, which included a NSW Blues and QLD Maroons minion.
“We’ve got our usual metal products that we use from fire extinguishers and gas bottles, LPG tanks, some resin furniture, a couple of outdoor settings and recycled mud kitchens and furniture,” he said.
Central Australian Show Society vice president Rachel Jericho is expecting a race for the stand Friday morning – as it can sometimes be sold out by lunchtime.
“You can literally walk past there on Friday afternoon and everything is gone,” she said.
The corrections team had also given the show team “next level support” in helping prepare the grounds, Ms Jericho said.
“They’ve been out here every day this week doing jobs that normally we’re all trying to bluster around, you know, big physical jobs, putting fencing out, security bunting and stuff,” she said.
Mr Rosier said the prison crew helped pressure wash the grandstand alongside giving the giving the grounds a general “uplift”.
