Serious injuries ‘suspected’ for young man hit by vehicle allegedly driven by relative in Papunya

A 26-year-old man’s spine and pelvis is suspected to be fractured after he was allegedly intentionally hit by a car driven by an older male relative.

A 26-year-old man’s spine and pelvis is suspected to be fractured after he was allegedly intentionally hit by a car driven by an older male relative.

In a statement, police said the older relative, aged 51, was arrested on Thursday morning in Papunya, accused of hitting a younger relative with a vehicle.

Police have accused the 51-year-old of driving dangerously within the community before he allegedly “intentionally” struck his younger relative.

No detail was given about the make or model of the vehicle by police.

Police have further accused the older man of “making threats” with a machete upon exiting the vehicle.

The 26-year-old was taken to the clinic for treatment, police said.

His spine and pelvis are suspected to be fractured, according to police.

Police said the 51-year-old is in custody, with charges expected to be laid.

The incident remains under investigation, police said, and they are urging anyone with information to get in touch on 131 444 and quote reference P25029611.
