Woodroffe Primary, Sanderson Middle School celebrate end of school Term 2

Woodroffe Oval was buzzing with activity on Friday as local primary school students celebrated the last day of term with an athletics carnival.

Decked out in bright blue, red, yellow and green, students at Woodroffe Primary School have celebrated the last day of Term 2 at the school’s annual athletics carnival.

Brushing strands of a bright blue wig from her face, Angel Dahoklory-Jones said she was going to miss seeing her friends every day at school but was looking forward to the dry season break.

“I’m excited about going to the Darwin Show,” she said.

“Me and (my friend) might be going on rides at the Darwin Show and then getting lots of food.”

Adorned with green ribbons from a day of races and outdoor games, Linton Noakes said he’d miss playing sport at school during the three-week break — but he’ll be as active as ever.

“I’m mainly going to be riding my quad and motorbike around and maybe go hunting as well as sleeping,” Linton said.

Meanwhile, Sanderson Middle School rewarded its top 20 students with a trip to the Kingpin bowling alley during the final week of school.

Gian Branco worked hard to earn his place among the semester’s high achievers and was excited to kick back and relax during the dry season holidays.

Like thousands of students across the Territory, Gian will spend the break resting up, spending time with family and “doing some sport stuff and exercise and playing with my friends”.

Teacher Bill Rolfe said the students earned points for good behaviour from their teachers, which were tallied up at the end of term.

He said students had been going above and beyond to earn even more points in the last week of school.

“They’ve been going out to many places, they’ve been doing … as much as they possibly can to earn as many points to be able to win this competition for today, to be at Kingpin,” he said.

Assistant principal Kieran Lines said teachers were looking forward to the holidays just as much as students.

“We work really hard at Sanderson – and I’m sure teachers everywhere do – but it’s great, one of the perks of being a teacher is you get a bit of extra holidays,” Mr Lines said.

“I think some of them will also be doing a bit of work as Term 3 begins to come a bit closer.”

Students will be back in classrooms again on July 18, with teachers set to return the day before.
