The Darwin Cup Carnival is back and Top End retailers have turned up for the occasion to help you design your outfits for the month ahead.

Just a small walk down Knuckey Street will provide everything you need for race day from suits and dresses to hats, shoes and bags.

Pink Hill’s Silvija Majetic had the pleasure of dressing Darwin Cup ambassador Bronte Pearson for the Guineas Day opener for the carnival.

“I don’t think an ambassador has ever looked so good, not just because it’s my dress, but Bronte is going to look absolutely superb,” she said.

“She’s wearing a Leo Lin (design), just a big, beautiful in your face dress that suits her beautifully.”

Ms Majetic has seen the pre-carnival buzz plenty of times, and said sales had been terrific leading into the event.

“Even though we’re right in the middle of nowhere we are stocked with the latest stuff right off the runway, the latest that has just been released is here,” she said.

“We’ve got Alemais, which is probably the hottest label in Australia at the moment, it fits the niche that women want to be fashionable but more so every year comfortable as well.

“It does get a bit busier at carnival times, we have great labels all year around but we see an influx of people come along this time of year.”

Stomp Shoes Darwin, run by Gella Catis, also curates its selection for carnival times, battling the difficulties of getting the right stock during the winter season.

Price wise, hats and fascinators don’t go over $200, while shoes and clothing are all presently below $200.

“Getting summer gear in winter is a mission and a half, but we seem to have managed this year with 80 per cent of our buying being related to the Cup,” Ms Catis said.

“Colour is a big factor for us, we’re one of the places that embrace colour, texture and fabric, and we have something for everyone from the most understated headband to the biggest hat.

“Darwin can be a bit lastminute.com, so we’ve had people turn up this week to get ready for Guineas Day; it’s going to be really great and we’re ready for it.”

As for men, it’s Attitude for Men where you can get your suit to look your best throughout the carnival, with owner Darlene Chin saying business had been great in the lead up.

Ms Chin said the store had suits to fit anyone’s budget with prices ranging from $299, and recommended men donned colour for the weekends ahead.

“People know we’re the best and come to us,” she said.

“We would love to see people dress up to the max for the Carnival and put their best foot forward to try harder than usual for the event.

“If you dress up, it can make you feel a lot better and have a much more enjoyable day out.”

Darwin City Retailers Association general manager Molly Upstill commended the work CBD retailers put in to provide for the time of year.

“The amount of work they put in to make sure the products they buy for this time of year is phenomenal,” Ms Upstill said.

“We’re competing against the winters so it’s really hard to find colour like this in the rest of Australia, but our retailers work their butts off to make sure they’re stocking for the Dry Season.

“The CBD has so many specialty retailers that has everything you need from shoes, handbags, millenary, dresses for all budgets, all tastes, all sizes, and that’s really special.”
