Touch Football is set to deliver a thrilling set of state titles this weekend, building off a successful opening season to the year.
The three day event across will show off some of the best touch footballers in the Territory with teams from Katherine and Gove among those making the trip to compete.
The tournament kicked into life from 5.40pm on Friday with the remaining pool games played out from 3.40pm before finals got under way on Sunday.
The five divisions include Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Under-18s mixed, Under-14s mixed and Senior mixed, with the junior comps making their first appearance.
And in a first that will shine a light on these athletes nationally the under-18’s, men’s and women’s competitions will be streamed live on Touch Football Australia’s YouTube channel.
Touch Football NT sport operations coordinator Michael Crowe said they were excited to have the under-14s and a team from Kununurra for the first time, with 13 interstate referees.
“We’re looking at mostly the same teams from the season so if that’s anything to go by we’re expecting high quality competition,” Crowe said.
“The Darwin Crocs recently won the men’s final so we’re expecting them to have a strong showing again, and the women should be a very tight and competitive comp with a good spread of talent.
“We have some new junior competitions too, it’s always good to give the juniors that exposure in a carnival type atmosphere and hopefully we can keep expanding from there.
“Getting this streamed pretty big for us, because from my understanding that hasn’t happened before so it would make for good exposure for our under-18s and open men’s and women’s.”
