Tendering for more than half-a-billion-dollars in local government work just got easier for Territory businesses, with a renewed partnership between nationally recognised procurement service, Local Buy and the NT Local Government Association.
LGANT president Kon Vatskalis said Local Buy facilitated more than $25 million in procurement spending with local suppliers since 2021.
He said more than $580 million was spent annually in the Territory by local government councils and Territory businesses were well placed to receive a considerable proportion of the available work.
Mr Vatskalis said the deal put Territory businesses in a stronger position to win council work, bypassing complex tenders, and saving time and money in growing their business.
“This partnership simplifies procurement, removes red tape, and puts businesses in front of councils across the Territory,” he said.
“The more NT suppliers become Local Buy pre-qualified, the more money stays in our communities.”
Darwin-based business CivEng NT joined the Local Buy 18 months ago and has since won two projects.
CivEng NT co-founder Natasha Bertinazzi said the process of tendering for local government work was simplified through the Local Buy arrangements.
“It’s been great. The portal is very user friendly; you can see all the opportunities available and the response process is really streamlined compared to other tendering methods,” Ms Bertinazzi said.
“I would definitely encourage local business to do it.”
Local Buy allows councils to easily search pre-qualified suppliers across a range of categories for NT-based and Indigenous suppliers using inbuilt filtering tools.
Arrangements are refreshed quarterly, giving businesses more chances to become pre-qualified and councils greater flexibility when purchasing goods and services.
