The board of Master Builders NT has stood down the director of M+J Builders, Michael Buckley, from its board.

Mr Buckley was arrested along with a federal public servant by the Australian Federal Police on Friday, charged with defrauding the Federal Government of up to $71 million.

Late today the Master Builders NT issued the following statement:

“Following matters reported in the NT News, including the now public identification of a Director, Mr Michael Buckley, in relation to an active investigation being undertaken by Federal authorities, the president and the board of Master Builders NT convened again today, 16 November 2025.

“While the allegations relate to the individual in a personal capacity and remain the subject of an ongoing investigation, the board has determined that decisive action is necessary to safeguard the reputation, integrity and stability of Master Builders NT and the broader NT construction industry.

Mr Buckley arrested as part of Operation Panton Hill.

“Accordingly, the president, with the full support of the board, has taken steps to stand Mr Buckley down from the position, effective immediately. This action is without precedent for our organisation and has been taken solely in the best interests of members and the Northern Territory construction sector.

“Master Builders NT was founded on principles of fairness, ethical conduct and integrity, particularly in relation to contracting and procurement.

“These values guide our organisation and underpin the trust that members, industry partners and government place in us.

“The board will continue to uphold the highest standards of governance as this matter progresses.

“As the investigation is ongoing, we are unable to comment further, and it is important that nothing we do or say prejudices those processes.”

Mr Buckley is expected to appear in court in Darwin Monday November 17.
