THE mother of five-year-old Darwin girl Grace Hughes is free on bail and “looking forward to her story being told” after she was arrested and charged with abducting the little girl on Saturday.

Laura Adele Hinks, 35, faced the Darwin Local Court on Monday charged with kidnapping Grace from an address in Berrimah on August 7.

Her lawyer, Matt Hubber, applied for the court to be closed so the successful bail application was heard behind closed doors.

But speaking outside court, Mr Hubber said Hinks was “happy” with the outcome of the hearing.

“Obviously, I can’t say too much as the matter’s before the court now and the investigations are ongoing, we’re very happy that my client was granted bail today, she’s happy,” he said.

“We’re looking at the charges at the moment, there’s a lot of material to be considered and she’s looking forward to her story being told.

“It’s a difficult situation, the court was closed today and there’s a number of sensitivities involved with this matter so we’ll have to let all those play out in time.”

It comes after 50-year-old Juliet Marie Oldroyd was also granted bail in the Darwin Local Court on Monday where she also stands charged over her alleged role in Grace’s abduction.
