DARWIN council is set to invest $100,000 into the municipality’s social capital, with one-off grants being offered to youth and arts programs.
Darwin council will tomorrow be recommended to allocate $50,000 for youth program funding, $40,000 for arts program funding and $10,000 to bring the Busk a Move program back, after it was cancelled last year.
Through the report council chief executive Scott Waters said the Busk a Move program had proven a success for rising music talent.
“Busk a Move aligned with the trialling of Council’s new busking guideline as part of a longer term process to develop a busking culture in Darwin,” he said.
“There was a recognised need to develop awareness, and grow the opportunities, for local performers to busk in public spaces at the time of Busk a Move in 2019.”

Youth program applicants may receive up to $10,000 to deliver youth based programs in the northern suburbs while arts and cultural applicants could receive up to $5000 to develop new works.
