OVERHAULING major intersections and developing a cycling superhighway between key locations could become a key part of Darwin’s future through the city council’s first ever movement strategy.
Streetscapes, infrastructure and connectivity are set to improve, with the strategy, which passed in Darwin council’s confidential sitting on Tuesday night, allowing smoother and more sustainable pedestrian flow.

Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the plan would prioritise greener outcomes such as pedestrian and bicycle networks and transport links. “We want our movement network to be modern and sustainable,” he said.
“Council wants to hear from the community about their movement preferences and how we can make it easier for people to walk, cycle, access public transport and use alternative modes of transport, including the use of electric vehicles, to inform the development of the strategy.”
