AANT survey shines a light on the NT’s accident black spots

A survey of hundreds of road users in the Territory have had their say on the location of our most risky roads. SEE WHERE WAS NAMED

PEAK motoring body AANT has released the findings of its first ever Risky Roads survey.

Almost 400 people were surveyed in October 2021 and the results were collated, assessed and released to the public in April.

The survey had 377 respondents and covered all Territory locations and included feedback from motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and those using mobility devices.

AANT chief executive Anthony Hill said an on-line survey tool was developed to allow road users from across the Territory to share their thoughts on road quality and safety.

“Respondents could nominate either a road, a whole piece of road, an intersection, a round-a-bout or anything else and the on-line tool allows for a real dissection and to pinpoint exactly what’s being talked about,” Mr Hill said.

“We had a really broad range of responses from both regional and urban, Alice Springs and the regional areas. We had a professional collate the information and we identified the tip five roads and intersections.

“Traditionally the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics has always said this is what we’re going to do as far as our planning on roads so we’re saying let’s get feedback from road users and we’ll collate and help formulate your plans for roads.”

The full report will be provided to the relevant Councils, and the Northern Territory Government.

It is hoped the report, which will be conducted annually, will provide impetus for works to be funded, scheduled and completed efficiently and effectively to ensure safe roads for all users into the future.
