Woman critical after gas explosion at Central Coast brewery

A young woman has been airlifted to hospital after being critically injured in a gas explosion at a popular brewery.

A gas cooktop explosion at the Six String Brewing Company on the NSW Central Coast has left a young kitchen hand with severe burns.

NSW Fire and Rescue responded around 11.45am on Monday after reports of a gas blast at Six String’s Chiltern Rd venue in Erina.

Firefighters and paramedics treated a woman in her 20s for serious burns to her face.

She was transferred to a nearby field, where the CareFlight Helicopter airlifted her to Royal North Shore Hospital in serious condition.

Authorities have ruled out any suspicion around the incident, attributing the explosion to a sudden ignition of gas on the cooktop.

Six String Brewing addressed the incident on its Facebook page, notifying customers that their taproom would remain closed for the day.

“This morning an incident occurred in our kitchen when a gas explosion caused severe burns to a member of our kitchen staff,” the statement read. “

“Thanks to the quick response of our team on-site, emergency services were immediately contacted, and CareFlight was able to transport her swiftly to receive urgent medical care.”

“We are unclear on the severity of the burn but our thoughts are with her, and we are hoping to get an update as she is assessed by medical professionals.”
