Sydney woman Sharon Gordon died on Qatar Airways flight from Doha, reports

The family of a Sydney woman that died on board a Qatar Airways flight have spoken of their devastation.

Transport Minister blocked Qatar Airways negotiations

The woman who passed away on a Qatar Airways flight on Friday afternoon has been identified as Sharon Gordon, a beloved mother and partner, according to a media report.

Her partner Rob Bray told 7News on Tuesday the family was devastated by her loss.

“I love her and will miss her so much,” he said.

“Mother to Cameron and Ashley. She will be so sorely missed by us all. Her workmates at Wynyard Station are devastated.”

The 60-year-old worked as a customer service station attendant at Sydney’s Wynyard Station.

7News revealed that the woman’s family “requested help from the federal government after the airline said it did all it could”.

Ms Gordon was travelling from Doha to Sydney on flight QR908 when she was found in an unresponsive state about halfway through the 14-hour journey.

It is understood crew members attempted to revive the woman, performing CPR and using a defibrillator.

But an Australian couple on the flight claim staff took almost half an hour to try and revive her.

They said the woman seated behind them started making a “weird noise”. They alerted the crew who came to check on her.

It was dark in the cabin at the time and many of the other passengers were asleep, 7News reported.

“She looked like she was sleeping, but she was making this really loud noise,” a passenger told the media outlet.

“They called more staff who came with an oxygen mask. But then they just left. You could see she wasn’t breathing.”

A spokesperson for NSW Police confirmed the woman’s death revealing officers attended the scene on Friday shortly after the plane landed at 4.47pm.

“On arrival, police found a 60-year-old woman deceased on the aircraft,” the spokesperson said. “Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.”

A spokesperson for Qatar Airways shared condolences to the woman’s family.

“Regrettably, the lady could not be revived,” the spokesperson said. “Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”

Qatar Airways has been contacted for further comment.
