Wild weather buffets widespread parts of Geelong and Surf Coast, patio roof ripped off Norlane house
The owner of a Norlane house was lucky no one was hurt when their patio roof collapsed in a storm that resulted in more than 80 SES calls around Geelong on Thursday after wild winds exceeding 100km/h swept across parts of the region.

More than 80 jobs were logged with the State Emergency Service on Thursday afternoon after a wild storm including 100km/h winds lashed the region.
The owner of a Norlane house was lucky no one was hurt when their patio roof collapsed on the outdoor area.
Powercor reported that 246 customers in Grovedale, 196 in Wallington and 158 in the Torqauy region were without power on Thursday night.
SES crews from Geelong, Bellarine and Torquay were called to multiple fallen trees and damaged buildings.
SES southwest duty manager Costas Chrysopoulos said Thursday was the busiest day of the year for the Torquay and Bellarine units with some crews expected to work into the night.
“There is still people who are rining with jobs who have come home to discover damage after work,” Mr Chrysopoulos said.
He said the Bellarine unit attended 36 jobs, Torquay 32 and Geelong 14 in six hours on Thursday afternoon.
The Bureau of Meteorology officially extended a severe weather warning for parts of the state to include Geelong at 4.48pm, just moments before the city copped the brunt of the storm.
A peak wind gust of 80km/h was recorded at Geelong’s weather station at Breakwater just after 5pm, while Avalon Airport had a 104km/h gust and Mt Gellibrand, near Colac, recorded 124km/h.
Norlane resident Kylie Smith told the Addy her children were playing outside not long before the storm hit, causing her patio roof to detach from the house and smash everything in her outdoor entertaining area.
Heyers Rd, Grovedale was partially blocked at the height of the conditions, just one of the instances of the more than of 60 reports of downed trees and building damage shortly after 5pm, many requiring State Emergency Service (SES) assistance.
The severe weather followed a week of rainy conditions for the region, which causing minor flooding in the Barwon River.
Conditions are expected to ease overnight before chilly 5C morning on Friday, followed by a sunny day with a top of 17C expected.
Saturday is tipped to reach a balmy 21C before the next cold front arrives in Geelong on Sunday.
