Water police search for missing backpacker in Brisbane River
A BACKPACKER is missing after jumping into the Brisbane River last night. Witnesses said he surfaced briefly before disappearing under the water again.

A FRANTIC search was launched overnight for a backpacker who jumped into the Brisbane River.
The 30-year-old leapt into the water from the William Jolly Bridge in the central city about 10.30pm.
Witnesses said he surfaced briefly before disappearing under the water again.
The British man was with a group of friends at the time he jumped.
Water police are searching the river and officers on foot are hunting along the riverbank, but so far have found no sign of him.
