Virginia Giuffre, who accused Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein of sexual abuse, has died by suicide.
Her family released a statement confirming her death on Saturday morning. She was 41 years old.
Outside her former Ocean Reef home in Perth, unidentified people have been spotted in and around the property as news of her death shocks the world.
A young man could be seen delivering flowers at her home.
Her heartbroken family issued a statement earlier today.
“It is with utterly broken hearts that we announce that Virginia passed away last night at her farm in Western Australia,” it read.
“She lost her life to suicide, after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.”
The statement continued: “Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking.
She was the light that lifted so many survivors.
“In the end, the toll of abuse is so heavy that it became unbearable for Virginia to handle its weight.”
Ms Giuffre alleged she was trafficked by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was a teenager.
She sued the Duke of York for sexual abuse in August 2021. The duke has repeatedly denied the claims, and has not been charged with any criminal offences.
In February 2022, it was revealed Ms Giuffre and the Duke had reached an out-of-court settlement.
It is believed the settlement included a “substantial donation to Ms Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights” — but the actual sum of money agreed between the two parties is unknown.
The agreement meant a trial was avoided. The allegations had already brought embarrassment to the Royal Family, with Prince Andrew stripped of his titles.
Ms Giuffre claimed she was trafficked and forced to have sex with the Prince for the first time at former socialite and convicted sex offender Ghislaine Maxwell’s house in London after a night out at the club Tramp.
Ms Giuffre also claimed she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew on at least two further occasions by Maxwell and Epstein.
Epstein, who had already been sentenced for soliciting underage sex back in 2008, died by suicide in custody in August 2019 while he was awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
He stood accused of abusing scores of underaged girls in New York, Florida and US Virgin Islands — using his deep pockets and influential pals to dodge consequences for decades.
Maxwell was sentenced in June, 2022 to 20 years in prison for helping the billionaire paedophile procure girls for sex.
In court, Ms Giuffre accused Maxwell of “opening the door to hell” and said she deserved to spend the rest of her life in a jail cell.
“Together, you did unthinkable things that still have a corrosive impact on me to this day,” she wrote in a statement read by her lawyer.
“I want to be clear about one thing: without question, Jeffrey Epstein was a terrible paedophile. But I never would have met Jeffrey Epstein if not for you.
“For me, and for so many others, you opened the door to hell.
“You could have put an end to the rapes, the molestations, the sickening manipulations that you arranged, witnessed and even took part in. You could’ve called the authorities and reported that you were a part of something awful.”
Maxwell launched an appeal against her conviction and sentence, but in September 2024 the appeal was rejected by a US court.
Giuffre’s tragic death comes just weeks after she was released from the hospital just a week after ominously stating she had “four days to live” due to a crash.
She was rushed to a Perth hospital in Western Australia following a collision with a bus on March 24.
In an emotional Instagram post, she expressed her desperate wish to see her children “one last time” and revealed that she is suffering from kidney failure as a result of the crash.
She leaves behind three children aged 20, 17 and 16.
