THE way taxpayer money will be spent this financial year will be revealed on November 24 at the Victorian budget.
Treasurer Tim Pallas is promising a big spending budget and “unprecedented investment in infrastructure and services” in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Coronavirus has taken a huge toll on economies around the world. And as other countries re-enter lockdowns, our success in aggressively suppressing the virus means Victoria is in a position to re-open, rebuild and grow,” Mr Pallas said.
Mr Pallas said the budget would build on the billions of dollars spent on support and stimulus by the government to repair damage the pandemic had wrought.
“This budget will continue our unprecedented support for Victorian families and businesses, and kickstart our economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic,” Mr Pallas said.
“Our success in suppressing this virus mean we are ready to re-open and rebuild – and we will invest like never before in the infrastructure and services our state needs for the future.”
Mr Pallas said the government had provided more than $13 billion towards measures to fight coronavirus, including more than $6.5 billion in direct economic support for Victorian businesses and workers.
The spending includes $2.25 billion in business support grants for 127,000 small and medium businesses.
