TWO Gold Coast venues have been forced to close temporarily this week after multiple COVID safe breaches.

The liquor watchdog confirmed the venues - one in Nobby and one in Miami - were allowed to reopen on Wednesday after they were found to exceed COVID safe limits at the weekend.

Both venues had previously been hit with compliance breaches according to the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR).

As at 1pm Wednesday both closure directions were lifted. Operators have been fuming about COVID clamps staying in place despite borders remaining closed to greater Sydney and Victoria.

The two businesses will be temporarily closed.

An OLGR spokesman said licensees must follow the Chief Health Officer’s (CHO) latest Restrictions on Businesses, Activities and Undertakings Direction.

“As part of routine compliance activities over the weekend, OLGR investigators found it necessary to issue two Gold Coast venues with directions to close,” they said.

“Primarily, this was due to patron density, with the venues far exceeding the limit permitted under the CHO’s Direction.

“These venues had previously been the subject of compliance action by OLGR, aimed at ensuring future compliance.

“OLGR has continued to work with the operators of these two venues with the aim of ensuring they are able to operate in compliance with the CHO’s Directions before they recommence business.”

“The Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) undertakes compliance monitoring and enforcement activities under the Public Health Act 2005 as part of the multi-agency response to the COVID-19 public health emergency.”

This is done in conjunction with OLGR’s core liquor and gaming responsibilities.
