A UNIQUE beard and brew haven has made a mark on the southern Gold Coast and bosses hope the “out-of-the-box” shop outruns COVID-19.
MADE Barber & Barista – a barber and espresso bar rolled into one – opened a couple of weeks ago and owners Britt Westcott and Josh Blair say they have been run off their feet.
When you walk into the sleek Tugun store, you will find Britt, a barber, behind the chair snipping hair and Josh, a carpenter, admiring his handiwork and pouring coffees.
“We have been planning our little project for some time,” Josh said.
“When we opened, it was great. During COVID-19, especially during Stage 3 restrictions, we have been able to trade quite well and it’s worked in our favour.
“There is nothing similar to our shop on the Coast – it’s a bit out-of-the-box and a blend of our passions for over 15 years.
“The locals keep coming back and we hope it keeps thriving.”

With Josh’s background in carpentry and love of coffee and Britt’s interior design skills – the duo built the Golden Four Dve store single-handedly.
At the front, you will find a coffee bar featuring Moonshine’s Moonrunner organic blend, Grounded Pleasures Chai, HRVST juices, Vegemite croissants and other sweet treats from Currumbin’s Fuel Bakehouse. Out the back, there are two barbers chairs to keep hair and moustaches sharp for around $38.
