A FAR North MP has responded to an LNP election promise to channel millions of dollars in unused Global Tourism Hub funds into a SkyTrails mountain bike tourist attraction.
On Wednesday, LNP tourism spokesman David Crisafulli pledged $150,000 towards a project feasibility study if elected at the upcoming state election.
Member for Barron River Craig Crawford agreed the money should be reinvested locally, but “when the time is right”.
“I don’t trust David Crisafulli and I don’t trust Deb Frecklington and I don’t think Cairns voters will either,” he said.
“I do support money from the Global Tourism Hub (going) back into the Cairns economy but now is not the time for that.
“Now is the time for the response and recovery from COVID-19 and as a government, that’s what we are focused on.
“We will roll out our election commitments when the time is right and that is during the election campaign.”
The SkyTrails eco-tourism proposal is expected to lure thousands of bikers to mountain trails in Smithfield.
