HOMEGROWN television star Sophie Monk has become the first national ambassador of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
The former Bachelorette star and Love Island host will use her role as ambassador to help boost the profile of the foundation with the younger generation.
Monk said she had been a huge supporter of the foundation and would now help promote child safety “at every opportunity I get”.
“I’ve been chasing (Mr and Mrs Morcombe) for a long time to be the ambassador and now I am,” she said.
“We want to spread it nationally a bit further. Luckily I have a voice for that.”
Bruce and Denise Morcombe, who made the announcement at West End State School yesterday, said Monk had a lot of resonance with younger kids.
“Sophie joins us with a huge amount of experience and a media profile that will benefit the workings and mechanics of the foundation in making sure kids keep safe,” Mr Morcombe said.
“She has a tremendous cut-through with the kids and young mums, and it’s really important … that our safety message is picked up by kids.”
Her first role as ambassador will be to help promote next week’s 14th annual Day for Daniel, held on October 26, as well as the Walk for Daniel on the Sunshine Coast.
The foundation was established by the Morcombes in 2005 as a lasting legacy to schoolboy Daniel, 13, who was abducted and murdered in December 2003.
