Scott Morrison’s father dies aged 84
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced today his father has passed away, after he “lived a life of love, faith, duty and service”.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has revealed today his father has died.
In an emotional post on social media, he told followers that his dad John “passed away quietly and peacefully”.
He said he found out the sad news on Wednesday night. His father was 84.
Mr Morrison paid tribute to him as being a "wonderful father” who loved his wife Jenny “as a daughter”.
“Last night I received the sad news that my father John passed away quietly and peacefully,” he wrote on Instagram.
“He was aged 84. He lived a great life and was much loved.
“He was a loving husband to my mum Marion for 57 years.
“He was a wonderful father to me and my brother Alan.
“He loved Jen as a daughter and was a devoted grandfather to our girls.”
Mr Morrison went on to say: “Dad lived a life of love, faith, duty and service.
“Dad served in the Army as part of his National Service, he was a dedicated member and officer in the NSW Police Force for his entire career, he served his local community as a Councillor and Mayor and many other roles, and he served faithfully in his church throughout his entire life as an elder, youth worker and in aged care.”
He also spoke of his commitment to his religion.
“Dad had a deep and committed Christian faith, which is one of his numerous legacies in my life,” he said.
“Our family will miss him terribly, but we are extremely thankful for his great blessing in all of our lives.
“Love you Dad and well done good and faithful servant.”
John Morrison OAM was a former divisional commander in the NSW Police Force.
He also served as a councillor and then Mayor of the Waverley Municipal Council.
Mr Morrison is not the first prime minister to have a parent die while they were in office.

Julia Gillard’s father John died while she was attending an APEC conference, while Bob Hawke’s father Clem died just before Christmas in 1989, when Bob was in his third term in office.
Ms Gillard has tweeted a message to Mr Morrison, saying: “My sincere condolences to
@ScottMorrisonMP on the death of his father John. Losing your dad is always hard, and even more so when you are serving as PM. My thoughts are with him and his family.”

For Father’s Day in 2018, Mr Morrison said his father John “had loved me unconditionally for all of my life, and I’ve been blessed in that respect”.
