Scott Morrison faces huge final sitting day for 2018 with Nauru, energy and encryption laws on the agenda

It's been a dramatic final day in Parliament with new anti-terror encryption laws clearing without amendments and Labor MP Emma Husar revealing she's suing a media outlet.

Turnbull urges Morrison to call a March federal election

New anti-terror encryption laws have finally passed Parliament tonight with Labor's support after a dramatic final sitting day for 2018.

It comes after Parliament was hijacked by Labor and the Coalition playing a high-stakes game of political chicken over refugees, which prevented any other major legislation passing including new 'big stick' energy powers or protections for gay students in religious schools.

The Prime Minister avoided a humiliating defeat - but thanks to hours of delay tactics and political manoeuvering, Parliament also failed to pass a bill to bring the remain refugee children on Nauru to Australia.

In a day of insanity - at the end of a very long year which included a leadership spill, several by-elections, the citizenship saga and the Barnaby Joyce love-child scandal - Labor MP Emma Husar also revealed she is suing a media outlet over a number of allegations, including that she exposed herself in a Basic Instinct-like move.

See how the day played out below.
