A GROUP of Sydney residents forced out of their homes by a sinkhole thought things couldn’t get any worse. That was until they returned to their properties and made a shocking discovery.

AS if leaving their homes because of a sinkhole threat wasn’t bad enough, now some Sydney residents have been targeted by thieves.
Dozens of residents are into their second month of being away from their homes in Harris Park, in Sydney’s west due to the sinkholes while repairs are carried out.
NSW Police have confirmed five separate reports of theft from some of the homes, Fairfax reports.
A spokesman said the thefts happened between May 3 and May 8 on Parkes St. Police would step up patrols in the area in response.
One victim, Ashvin Patel, had a hard drive and computer desktop missing while others have lost everything from cameras to air conditioning units.
The local council claimed to have security guards on site 24 hours a day while it was in charge of the site.
Two sinkholes opened up early last month in a construction zone that was flooded after days of heavy rain.
This week soil, clay and ripped shale were this week emptied into the pit to stabilise the retaining wall and adjoining properties.
But apartment block owners on either side will then need to carry out the final repairs before their sites can be ticked off as safe — and there is no firm date for when they will be able to return home.
