CAMERAS are set to begin rolling on the Gold Coast-filmed blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales again this week — in Vancouver, Canada.
Working under the production title Herschel Additional Photography, directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning have taken their show on the road again, this time to shoot additional footage in Vancouver from March 24 to April 13.
The Herschel reference is believed to be a nod to Sir John Frederick William Herschel, an English mathematician, astronomer and science philosopher who named seven moons of Saturn and four moons of Uranus.
Herschel was also the production name used during the film’s six-month Gold Coast shoot, with locations at Maudsland, Helensvale, The Spit, Hastings Point and flagged for cast and crew by signs marked with a letter ‘H” for Herschel.
It is not yet known how many of the film’s stars will be required for the Canadian shoot, however Kevin McNally, who has played Joshamee Gibbs since the franchise launched, has posted photos of Vancouver on his Instagram page.
Leading lady Kaya Scodelario, who has spent the past few weeks in Canada filming her role in the upcoming Maze Runner movie, returns to the Pirates 5 set with a new name — Kaya Scodelario-Davis — after she wed US actor/comedian Benjamin Walker (real name Davis) in December.
In a series of posts on Instagram, Scodelario-Davis, who joins the Pirates franchise as new character Carina Smyth, confirmed she had broken her collarbone on the Helensvale set of the $350-million blockbuster last year.
She posted a picture of her and Aussie co-star Brenton Thwaites with the tag: My last TB from filming #pirates 5 #deadmentellnotales — The lovely Brenton making me feel better after I busted my collarbone. It’s a shame the chick in the corner wasn’t having as much fun!
Another picture from the film’s Australian shoot is captioned: Hoping Vancouver lives up to Australia ...
Dead Men Tell No Tales’ six-month Gold Coast shoot injected more than $100 million into the Queensland economy, according to Screen Queensland estimates.
The shoot ended in July last year.
Dead Men Tell No Tales is due for release on May 26, 2017.
