Woman jailed over toddler assault in Perth

A young woman who attacked a toddler at a Perth shopping centre has been jailed for 18 months.

Pamela-Raye Jetta hit the two-year-old at a centre in East Victoria Park in October 2024, leaving the young girl with facial injuries.

The girl was in her mother’s arms at the time of the incident.

The assault was captured on CCTV and sparked a search for Jetta, who fled the scene.

She was arrested in Mirrabooka, in Perth’s north, and charged with aggravated assault.

Jetta was sentenced for the attack on Thursday in Perth Magistrates Court. She was also sentenced for an earlier attack on an elderly woman on a bus.

Jetta, who said she is remorseful, has been in custody since October, and will be eligible for parole in July.

Speaking after the attack, the girl’s mum said she was proud of how her daughter handled the traumatic incident.

“She knows that something that shouldn’t happen to her has happened but is otherwise okay for now,” she said.
