A WOMAN has died and several more are critically injured after a bus carrying senior citizens and a truck collided on the Princes Highway at Yallah, south of Sydney.
NSW emergency services including police, paramedics and firefighters are on the scene after reports of the crash just before midday.
One of the female passengers died at the scene.
A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman told news.com.au there were “nine patients: three critical, one serious and the remainder in a mini hospital on roadside”.
“They’re triaging ... the remainders are what we call the walking wounded. They have injuries but are still able to get around.”
Five of the patients have been transported to Wollongong Hospital. Another two survivors have been taken to Shellharbour and one with critical injuries is being flown to a Sydney Hospital.
The truck driver has been taken away by police for questioning.
NSW Police said emergency services were called to the M1 Motorway, near the Dapto exit at Yallah.
“Police have been told a minibus with 11 occupants and a truck both travelling north crashed, causing the bus to fall on its side,” a police statement read.
“Both drivers have been taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.”
Officers from Crash Investigation Unit will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The M1 Princes Motorway was temporarily closed at the off ramp from the Princes Highway, but has since reopened.
