A MAN is dead and three seriously injured others were freed by emergency services at the scene of a horror crash on the NSW Central Coast.

The two-car collision near Magenta, north of Gosford on the Central Coast Highway near Pelican Beach Road about 11am left the highway blocked as the scene was cleared, police say.

Police said the dead man was the sole occupant of a Mitsubishi Lancer which collided with a Range Rover Evoque containing two men and a woman.

The driver of the Mitsubishi died at the scene of the accident.

The two men and the woman in the Range Rover were freed after being trapped for a short time.

The woman is in Westmead hospital in a critical condition. The two men have serious injuries and are in John Hunter Hospital.

Traffic diversions remain in place.

It comes after a horror morning on Australian roads.

In a separate accident earlier today, a 74-year-old man has died after his sports car veered and rolled off a highway on the outskirts of Sydney.

The sole occupant of a Jaguar died in Liverpool Hospital, hours after the 8am crash on the Hume Highway at Pheasants Nest, police said.

And in Melbourne, a truck driver was flown to hospital after his vehicle rolled off a bridge and crashed 20 metres down into a river.

Emergency service workers fought to free the truckie after his vehicle plunged 20 metres down an embankment, trapping him in his vehicle under a bridge about 10am.

The man, in his 20s, remains in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, a 70-year-old woman who was struck by a vehicle as she tried to cross a western Sydney street died at the same hospital from her critical injuries.

She was hit at Bonnyrigg Heights on Sunday night, with the driver of the vehicle, a 53-year-old woman, stopping to render first aid before paramedics arrived.

The Victorian truckie had to be cut from his vehicle.
