TWO members of “one of the most fearsome criminal gangs in the world” allegedly tried to stab a civilian in a case of mistaken identity in Logan.

On Wednesday a man returning to his car at an Eagleby shopping centre was allegedly set upon by the New Zealand founded Mongrel Mob

Incorrectly believing he was from a rival bikie gang, police allege the two men threatened him with a knife.

As he fled they gave chase and allegedly tried to stab him, police say.

The victim managed to escape unharmed and reported the attack to police.

It follows an incident on August 30 when another Mongrel Mob member allegedly broke a man’s arm in a busy Eagleby cafe.

The 36-year-old accused criminal gang member had allegedly started an argument with three men, believing them be rival gang members, in an Eagleby cafe.

During the incident one of the men suffered a fractured arm after the accused gang member threw furniture at him. The three men have not been located by police

Queensland’s anti-bikie squad Taskforce Maxima intercepted one of the accused gangster’s vehicles on Fryar Road, Eagleby yesterday.

During a search police found a knife believed to have been used in the attack.

Officers then raided a Bedford Crescent property in Eagleby and seized clothing, number plates and cannabis.

Two men, aged 22 and 53, allegedly involved in Wednesday’s attack, were charged with possessing stolen property and drugs and attempted assault.

Also at the address, a 36-year-old man was charged with affray and possession of a knife in a public place over the August 30 incident.

All three were due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court this morning.

The New Zealand founded Mongrel Mob was declared as an “identified organisation” by the State Government last year.

At the time Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath described them as “one of the most fearsome in the world”.

The declaration means members cannot wear their colours or logos in public. It came after the Mongrel Mob was seen increasing their presence in Brisbane, Logan, Rockhampton and the Gold Coast.

LNP Shadow Police Minister Trevor Watts weighed in on what he called a “brazen attack”

“This brazen attack is yet another sign the bikies are back under Labor,” he said.

“It’s horrifying a civilian was almost stabbed at a shopping centre in broad daylight and it shows bikie violence is spiralling out of control.

“Innocent people getting caught in the crossfire of bikie wars is the last thing Queensland wants to see.”
