NSW lockdowns to end at 80 per cent vaccinations

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has made a bold commitment saying the current lockdown could be the last one to effect the whole state or Sydney.

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has made a bold commitment, outlining what it would take to end lockdowns in the state forever.

That’s despite NSW recording almost 1500 new Covid-19 infections on Sunday.

The Premier said she was confident the state would hit a 70 per cent and then 80 per cent double dose vaccination rate by mid-October allowing fully vaccinated residents greater freedoms and the abolishing of lockdowns.

“I know I sound like a broken record, but with good reason, because when we get those vaccination rates life will look better and feel better,” she said.

NO LOCKDOWN ‘EVER AGAIN’

“We certainly will not have to have a statewide lockdown ever again when we hit the 80 per cent double dose vaccination rates which is what we‘re looking forward to,” she said.

Her comments came as NSW recorded 1485 locally acquired cases and three deaths in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

Currently, 75 per cent of the state has had one dose of a coronavirus vaccine and 53 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Today, the Premier also warned that the number of cases was likely to peak over the next few weeks.

“All the modelling indicates to us the peak (in cases) is likely to be here in the next week or two and the peak in hospitalisation and intensive care is likely to be with us in October,” she said.

There were seven deaths reported during the weekend taking the number of fatalities to 182.
