A WOMAN who was found unconscious and in a critical condition on a western Sydney footpath has died.

A WOMAN who was found unconscious and in a critical condition on a western Sydney footpath has died.

Debbie Spencer was rushed to Nepean Hospital after she was found by a passer-by on a pedestrian path that runs parallel to Lemongrove Bridge, on Evan Street, in Penrith about 7.15am on Sunday morning.

The 51-year-old was breathing but not responsive. Paramedics stabilised her but she couldn’t be saved and died the following night.

Detectives have appealed to the public for information about her or from anyone who might have seen her in the area, especially during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Although police know her name, they don’t know how she came to be injured

A friend of the dead woman, Lou, told Seven News she didn’t know if she died from natural causes “or if someone hurt her”.

“Everyone who knew her wouldn’t have harmed her,” the friend said.
