IT could be a scene right out of a B-grade horror movie. A dark, lonely road, a single car and a creepy looking man in a hoodie standing on the side of the road.
His face obscured, he waits for cars to pull up next to him — Good Samaritans who think he’s broken down because a four-wheel drive is parked at an odd angle partly blocking the nearby intersection.
It’s then the man rushes at them — screaming.
The incidents happened on Sunday morning just outside of Cessnock, 52km from Newcastle, in New South Wales.
The first terrifying encounter was captured on one motorist’s dashcam and shows the driver pull up beside the hooded man before he lunges at the car, forcing the driver to speed away.
The driver has told a local newspaper he didn’t have time to warn his partner, who was travelling in a separate car behind him with a friend. The same terrifying incident then happened to her.
“I almost stopped before I could go around this guy, and as we went past he just lunged at our door,” the woman told the Newcastle Herald
“We still don’t know what he was trying to do, whether he was trying to rob us, was he trying to take our car or was he trying to hurt us?”
NSW Police, who have viewed the footage and don’t believe it was an attempted carjacking, have reportedly arrested a man who was living in bush nearby. The arrest was made after drugs were found in the bush.
Police told Fairfax the man wouldn’t face charges over those incidents.
