'Bloody thing': King Charles expresses frustration with leaky pen

King Charles lost his temper for the second time in four days – both times it involved ink.

The new monarch was signing a visitor’s book in front of cameras at Hillsborough Castle, in Northern Ireland, when he became upset after the pen he was using leaked over his hand.

“Oh god I hate this (pen)!” Charles said, handing the pen to his wife, Camilla, Queen Consort.

“Oh look, it’s going everywhere,” Camilla responded.

Then Charles said, “I can’t bear this bloody thing … every stinking time”.

The King was signing documents on Tuesday when he also used the wrong date.

He checked what day it was with an aide who said it was September 13, not September 12, as Charles had thought.

Several days ago, at the Accession Council in London, Charles became irritated with the position of a pen holder, calling for aides to move it.

The new monarch, 73, has been travelling the width and breadth of the UK following the death of his mother.

His schedule - which would be tough for someone half his age - has been relentless.

Along with crisscrossing the country, he has been making speeches, taking part in ceremonies and meeting mourners on walkabouts, all while grieving for his mother.

He has received a rapturous welcome from everywhere he has been so far, including Belfast, where he was on Tuesday.

There, the King and his wife did a walkabout and even shook paws with a corgi, the Queen’s favourite breed of dog, that someone had brought with them for the historic occasion.

With so many hands to shake, Camilla took it upon herself to do double handshakes, in a bid to personally greet as many as possible.
