Katie Hopkins deported from Australia and labelled ‘imbecile’ by Brad Hazzard

Morrison government revokes Katie Hopkins' visa

British far-right commentator Katie Hopkins has been sent back to England after a “juvenile, imbecilic” hotel quarantine breach in Sydney.

Ms Hopkins left Australia on Monday afternoon shortly after the axed Big Brother star was told she would be deported as her visa had been cancelled in the wake of her flagrant disregard for quarantine rules.

Ms Hopkins had previously posted a video claiming she had deliberately not worn a mask when hotel quarantine staff brought food to her room, and calling Sydney’s lockdown a “hoax”.

Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews confirmed Ms Hopkins’ visa had been cancelled and revealed it was the NSW Government who gave approval for her to fly to Australia to film Big Brother.

“The Australian Border Force acted quickly to make sure that the visa on which she entered was cancelled,” Ms Andrews said.

“We will be getting her out of the country as soon as we can possibly arrange that.”

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said Ms Hopkins was originally granted a visa as part of changes dating back to July which allow film crew and stars into Australia.

“What happens is the State Operations Centre has those applications that come to them, they consider them … sometimes it comes to me and sometimes it doesn’t,” he said.

“It will generally get approval if it is a big positive for our economy and jobs.”

Mr Hazzard denounced Ms Hopkins’ behaviour, saying he had never heard of her and hoped to never hear of her again.

“To think that she could think that the measures we are taking to keep our community safe can be treated with search juvenile, imbecilic behaviour is mind boggling,” he said.

Ms Andrews also described the footage of Ms Hopkins bragging about her quarantine breaches as “unacceptable”.

The decision to allow Ms Hopkins into Australia over the strict quarantine cap sparked fury among Australians stranded overseas, but Ms Andrews insisted it was necessary for the economy.

“We do need people to be able to come into this country where there is an economic benefit for them to do so,” she said.

The controversial commentator was allowed into Australia to film reality TV show Big Brother VIP, but was axed from the show by Channel 7 following news of her behaviour.

“Seven and Endemol Shine strongly condemn her irresponsible and reckless comments in hotel quarantine,” a statement from Channel 7 said.

Last week Ms Hopkins posted a now deleted video on Instagram in which she outed herself for breaking the rules, saying she was waiting in her hotel room for her food delivery so she could “spring it open and frighten the s*** out of them and do it naked with no face mask.”

“That’s one game that I’m playing,” she said while laughing.

To reduce the risk of the spread of Covid-19, people in hotel quarantine are required to wear a mask and wait 30 seconds after their food has been delivered before opening their door to collect it.
