AN Australian anti-vaccination campaigner, who was carrying out radical detox treatments with no medical training, has been arrested in New Zealand and will face court later this month on a charge of assault with a weapon.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years jail and since his arrest Chris Savage has been publicly appealing for help to pay his legal fees by selling ancient magnesium oil.
Savage, a former Queensland police officer and one-time political aspirant for the One Nation party, who has no medical training or qualifications whatsoever, but who offered IV infusions of magnesium to cure illnesses, is charged in relation to his alleged treatment of a man in New Zealand who ended up in the emergency room of the hospital.
His arrest comes after New Zealand health authorities issued a public warning about Savage and after he left Bali when local authorities and News Corporation started investigating the medical procedures he was offering there.
The Queensland Health Ombudsman and Queensland Police are also investigating Savage’s activities at his home at Amamoor in Queensland where he treated Melbourne woman Rebecca Coombs with IV infusions.
Savage offered IV infusions of magnesium and dimethyl sulfoxide, known as DMSO, as a cure for autism, cancer, endometriosis, calcified aortas and other illnesses he claims are caused by vaccinations.
News Corporation understands that Savage was arrested on May 30 at Auckland International Airport as he was allegedly attempting to leave the country.
He has been bailed to appear at Hastings District Court on June 27 and has been required to surrender his passport and ordered not to administer alternative medicines to any person and to be restricted to a curfew between 7pm and 7am.
Since then Savage has been offering to sell ancient magnesium oil to fund his defence, but not to administer.
In a Facebook posting obtained by News Corporation Savage urged his supporters to “please help me stay out of prison”.
“After helping a vaccine injured person at no charge he turned against me and complained to NZ police. I have been arrested and charged with a serious criminal offence that carries a penalty of up to 5 years imprisonment. (Assault with a weapon),” Savage said in the Facebook post.
He goes on to say that he has a barrister for $300 per hour.
“Please help me pay for the legal fees which are instrumental to help me stay out of prison.”
He goes on: “For Australian donors any amount of AUD$100 I will send you 1 litre of ancient Magnesium Oil with Boron and Sulfur and overseas AUD$130 to show my appreciation.” Savage provides his bank account details in the account name Legal Fees.
It is understood that Savage allegedly treated the NZ man in April this year. He is accused of assault with a weapon, being the needle used to administer the treatment to the man.
The Queensland Health Ombudsman is also investigating a complaint from Melbourne woman Ms Coombs, who was treated at his home in mid-March. Investigators have interviewed Ms Coombs about her experience.
Ms Coombs, who suffers a condition which causes tumours to grow, was intending to have two weeks of IV infusions from Savage and her 10-year-old was also going to be treated.
But after her own horrific experience Ms Coombs and her partner left. She later changed her mind and left.
It is understood the Queensland police synthetic drug group are also looking into the case.
