Turn up to swim and work out.
That’s what users of Geelong council’s swim, sport and leisure centres will be able to do from Tuesday when the need to book into indoor pools and gyms is removed.
But indoor council pools will be capped at 150 people, and capacity limits will also be placed on saunas and spas. All council-run gyms will also scap bookings from Tuesday.
Geelong councillor Peter Murrihy said council had to impose capacity limits at its venues.
“It is great that we can now allow swimmers and gymgoers the chance to attend when they
like and to stay for as long as they want,” Cr Murrihy said.
“However please note that capacity limits will be in place to meet the state’s COVID-19
restrictions, so some areas of our centres will remain closed.”
Splash parks and water slides at Leisurelink, Bellarine Aquatic & Sports Centre and Splashdown will remain closed. As will crèche and childcare facilities.
And a start date for aqua aerobics at council centres is yet to be set.
Outdoor pools at the Kardinia Aquatic Centre and Lara Aquatic Centre can host up to 300
people for lap swimming and water play. Bookings are not required.
All attendees will be required to check in and provide contact details, to assist with any
necessary COVID-19 contact tracing.
Masks must be worn at all times when not strenuously exercising when indoors.
