STABLE on the Strand has wrapped up its celebration of the “true meaning” of Christmas and closed the doors of Bethlehem for another year.

Organiser Richard Hosking said the event, now in its 16th year, had proved as popular as ever with consistent crowd numbers flocking to the Strand.

“Stable on the Strand has been able to educate a whole generation of children who have grown up knowing there is more to Christmas than Santa,” Mr Hosking said.

“The real reason for Christmas is celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.”

Mr Hosking said, as ever, the nativity scene has been well received by crowds.

The animals in Bethlehem have been a favourite attraction for children.

“We have a lot of groups performing, as well as the main stage we had a stage on the beach this year and many local acts and indigenous acts did a fantastic job,” Mr Hosking said.

“Everything is free except for the food so parents who might be doing it tough at Christmas time can come down.
