JASMINE Hand turned a passion for makeup into a beauty empire, luring millions of views on her YouTube channel almost overnight.
The Burleigh Heads woman, commonly known on the internet as Makeup by Jaz, has been posting videos for two years and amassed 376,000 YouTube subscribers. She earns $2000-5000 from YouTube every month and another $2000 each weekend for doing freelance make up.
“I used to work behind a bar at a restaurant to earn money but I quit about a year ago and this is now my fulltime job.”
Ms Hand, 23, said she is sent free products from makeup companies and has been offered up to $3000 to post an Instagram photo.
“In the past I have just done it for the money, we’ve all done it, but now I’m pretty cautious about what I post.
“I’ve been offered $3000 to post a photo but I don’t want to look like a sellout now that I’m building a business.”
Ms Hand said her weekend freelancing provided a point of difference on YouTube. “I regularly post tutorials with my clients who have other face shapes or skin types so I can relate to more people. I’ve also started ‘vlogging’ my weddings. I always travel for weddings, I was recently flown to New Zealand. “I could never stop freelancing, all my friends have real jobs but I’m so obsessed with what I do.
“The typical Gold Coast makeup look is winged liner, massive lashes, bold brows, drawn lips and tanned skin.”
