How a Tablelands mum is raising funds for a rare disease and helping local tourism

Ravenshoe mum Nicola Baker isn’t letting a pandemic mess with her plans to raise funds for the foundation that’s helping others learn about the disease that struck her teenage son when he was only four.

WHEN Nicola Baker’s 2020 fundraising plans were disrupted by COVID-19 she didn’t give up and started plotting the Smokey Blue Rally.

The Ravenshoe mum picked the long weekend in October to hold the event that will raise money for Moyamoya Australia – the charity she established when 16-year-old son Jed was diagnosed with the rare disease – but bring tourist dollars to the Tablelands.

“The rally will be a ‘write your own adventure’ with cars going to at least five towns out of the 11 we have identified because we want to spread the money around,” she said.

The Smokey Blue Rally is set for October 3-5, visit the website
