THE woman found murdered in a home in Melton, in Melbourne’s west, last night has been revealed to be a young mother.
Jackie Deng, 20, left behind a two-year-old son, reports the Herald Sun.
Ms Deng came to Australia to escape the violence of Sudan, a family friend said.
“She was always kind and humble. She never put herself in front of others. Her two-year-old son will now be taken care of by his grandmother with the support of friends and family.”
The law student had apparently just moved into the unit where she was killed. Neighbours have reported hearing screams from the property over the weekend.
One resident told the Today showon the Nine Network they could hear the loud screams, while another could see police searching the neighbourhood on foot and in cars.
A man known to the woman, aged 24, was found nearby and has been charged with one count of murder.
He will face court today.
Police have not said what injuries the woman suffered. Paramedics reportedly tried to revive her with CPR.
A large crowd gathered outside the home and were visibly upset, a neighbour said.
